Our winemaker Morgan had been asking us why we never named a wine after ourselves. “Because” was always our answer. I guess it never really occurred to us or it felt weird or something like that. Anyway, with the 2016 vintage, Morgan surprised us and announced he had made a new wine and he wanted to name it Lawson. We tasted it for the first time at a dinner we were at with our barrel reps in Napa back in January 2019 and, at the time, I remember thinking it might be the best wine he’s ever made. And I was very proud it was named Lawson. Our third vintage of this single vineyard wine is the most delicious yet. 2018 was a stellar vintage, especially for wines out of the Horse Heaven Hills. The most wonderful May’s Discovery Vineyard grew the fruit for this bottling and we are pretty excited to share it with you. The 2018 is 60% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. This wine is elegant and refined and full of personality. Crunchy red fruit, black pepper, and a hint of coffee. This vintage was aged in 70% new French oak for 22 months.
