I caught the wine bug when I was 19 years old. It wasn’t really about drinking it: but I was insatiable about learning the different regions, terroir, and varietals. I grew up in Houston and by the time I was 30 I was hosting dinner parties and sharing wine with friends and family. I was working for BP at the time, and they offered me a job in Edmonds, WA. I didn’t know anything about Edmonds or the new job, but I knew there was a whole lot more wine being made in Washington than there was in Texas, so I quickly accepted. A few weeks later, I’d sold my house and moved to Washington. “I’m closer to the vines,” I told myself anytime I got nervous about what I’d done.

I met David a couple of weeks off the plane. At the time, he didn’t drink wine at all – he was a beer guy. But he liked me, and he wanted me to like him, so he pretended to like everything that I liked. It wasn’t long until he was bitten by the wine bug too. And that’s how it all began.

David is very curious by nature and once he fell in love with wine, he soon became obsessed with making it. We started making hobby wine in our garage in Covington, WA back in the mid 90’s. Eventually, we got more serious and started taking enology classes at UC Davis. I studied wine and food pairing at the CIA Greystone, and in 2002 we decided to embark on turning our passions into a side hustle, and Covington Cellars was born. A few years later, we moved the winery to Woodinville where we were the 19th winery to open its doors.

A lot has changed in the last twenty years, but one thing has remained the same – our dedication to quality and our unwavering commitment to making delicious wines. We’re grateful that you’ve found your way to us, and we welcome you to join us on that journey.

Cheers,
